Oak Class – 12/10/2020

This week in Oak Class we will be continuing our look at Vikings. This will include looking at local place names and their Viking roots.

In English we will continue to look at basic word types (nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs and prespositions). Our writing will focus on editing and improving instructions on how to be a Viking.

In Maths we will be looking at the 2 and 4 times tables. We will also begin our focus on the four operations.

This week we will finish pictures of Viking ships which has been a long process with a lot of painting.

Science will continue to focus on the types of food we eat and why we need it.

PE will continue to be focused on football skills. PE sessions are on Wednesday and Friday this term.

Reading books should be brought home each day and the children have the responsibility to ensure that this happens. Miss Evans is concentrating on the Rising Stars books while I am managing the reading scheme books. The children are using Lexia alternating with reading their books during a dedicated reading session. This means I will be trying to hear each child read from their reading book several times a week, but for struggling readers this may be more often, and for very fluent readers possibly less. However there are other opportunities to listen to children read throughout the week when we are looking at a text altogether or reading out sections of work of from shared resources on the whiteboard. Also Miss Evans is timetabled to listen to those children using Rising Stars books regularly throughout the week.
