After School Club
After School Club at Great Smeaton School takes places between
Monday – Thursday 3.30pm – 6.00pm
Friday – 3.30pm-5.30pm.
Here the children come into the Learning Zone and at 3.40pm have a light, healthy snack and drink, in the past the children have had ham wraps which they have made, crumpets with spread, fruit kebabs and tuna pitta pockets with cucumber sticks.
During this time we talk what the children have been during their school day and on some nights a child from the group chooses a story which they listen to as they finish their snack. After this, they are free to choose an activity. On some weeks we work to a theme, such as Frozen week (which was a huge hit!) where the children made large sticking and cutting pictures of characters from the movie, magic wands and crowns, which they enjoyed wearing whilst they played.
The older children had been interested in making paper aeroplanes, so we held a paper aeroplane competition and threw the aeroplanes through a target to gain points! The children also love to build with the Kapla blocks. They had a competition to see who could build the tallest tower, and of course, the best bit was knocking it down!
The children also take part in games such as bingo, which helps with number recognition and listening skills. The children build positive relationships with each other in After School Club and they are proud to be a part of the group.
